Welcome Dell Tech Support. Prefetch & Superfetch are services that pre-load programs, apps and files for improved responsiveness but can sometimes eat up your computer’s disk space. Today we will look at what to do when the Task Manager shows that the disk is used being used at 100% by these services. To disable these services, press the WINDOWS key and the R key to open the Run operation. Type in ‘services.msc’ and click OK. Scroll down to Superfetch and double click on it. In the General Tab, change the Startup type to Disabled. Click Apply and then OK. Press the WINDOWS key and R key again and type in ‘regedit’ and click OK. The Registry Editor program dialogue box will open. Click Yes to accept changes. Expand H-Key-Local_Machine then System. Next expand CurrentControlSet and then Control. Scroll down to Session Manager and expand it. Expand Memory Management and open the PrefetchParameters folder. In the right pane, double-click on EnablePrefetcher and set its Value data to zero ( 0 ) to disable it. Do the same for EnableSuperfetcher if your system has it listed. Click OK, close the window and restart your System. Check your Task Manager to see if this resolves the problem. If it does, you can leave these services disabled if your system contains a Solid State Drive (SSD). However, if the problem persists, or you have a Standard Hard Drive (HDD) and the problem appeared recently, we recommend restoring your operating system to an earlier date. To check which type of hard drive you have, the easiest way is to press the WINDOWS key and the S key to open the search box and type in Optimize. Click on Defragment and Optimize your Drives and look under Media Type for the drivers listed (SSD or HDD). • Only disable that if you have issues otherwise DON'T. Even on SSD don't disable it. Even the fastest nvme ssd is slower than the slowest ram!!. It is supposed to make pc Faster by preloading to ram. It doesn't use much of system resources when running normally. So please don't disable that.

  • I cant find it

Are you fucking kidding me? I've been struggling with this problem for years and on a few dell computers (this one was supposed to be and will be my last Dell computer)!
Dell installs on their machines a piece of shit garbage software that ruins the computer altogether and their solutions is registry edits? Not even an apology?

  • OMG my pc wonteaven open properties so i can disable it, its so slow that it took 27min just to
    Open task manager… help

  • so… if i have hdd i should not use this process, is that what you are saying? its odd htat its only mentioned at the very end of the video. i'm glad i didn't follow it step by step as you went. kinda woulda freaked when i saw what i'd done. so can someone clarify if this is a no-no if i have an hdd system?

  • Thaaaaaaank u so much

  • Is there any problems that can come due to this

  • WTF. It's not really clear. Do we not mess with the whole superfectch and prefetch at all if i have an SSD?

  • Hello, i disabled my superfetch on windows 10 computer, and after i rebooted it, my computer wont open. Is it possible to enable superfetch using command prompt? If so please comment ASAP thankss!!!

  • I have just bought a new Dell i7 and I have not saved or installed anything. I have the same problem. After doing what the video says, my task manager changes to show a usage of hard drive between 2 to 25%, but that not should be 0% ?, however for some seconds/minutes it becomes to 89%

If I have just don't have open anything? Why the use of disk have this disbalances? I repeat, I have nothing open on the PC. Please someone could help?

*I've just see that responsible of the use of 89% seems to be "update orchestator service" and "windows update" inside the tab "service host: Local system" is 26 mb/s, in the task manager.

  • So I download the latest Dell update, and it re-enables Superfetch…Thanks Dell! Now I will waste 15 min shutting it off.

  • keep up the good work DELL <3

  • My superfetch got infected and made my prefetch create random encrypted files….Wild

  • thx dell support <3. Dell Inspiron 7559 here xd
